01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Near Ikebukuro Station's west exit, Okonomiyaki & Teppanyaki Kintaro is anchored by its namesake specialty: Kintaro-yaki. Grated Japanese mountain yam lends the batter an airy, molten core, layered with smoked ham and a soft-cooked fried egg before being finished with a toasted cheese cracker shaped like folk hero Kintaro's apron. Standard okonomiyaki, spicy cod roe with mochi and cheese, and richly topped seafood varieties also come in half sizes, making it easy to tailor portions to solo visits or group sharing.

Beyond griddled savory pancakes, the teppan turns out an extensive lineup of drinking snacks. Daisen chicken steak sizzles with charred garlic soy sauce alongside tender buttered squid tentacles and eryngii and shimeji mushrooms draped in melted cheese. Noodle options go well beyond classic yakisoba tossed in house sauce, extending to Wakayama's regional sechi-yaki—fried noodles bound with beaten egg on the grill—as well as omelette-wrapped omusoba and chopped sobameshi for hungrier appetites.

Seating includes front-row counter spots where the griddle stays in full view, plus private rooms suited to unwinding with company. A broad drinks selection covers draft beer, sours, and whisky, and weekday service runs until 3:00, providing a dependable stop for late-night drinks and after-parties.
